This is me, this is my story, this, is my life.

I'm a procrastinator so I haven't posted since December... So here is JANUARY!!!<div style="text-align: right;">
<a href="https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t1.0-9/1520698_10202823258522579_93191454_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t1.0-9/1520698_10202823258522579_93191454_n.jpg" width="200" /></a>First off; I went to Brugge with the Rotary (again, I know I already went there...) so here are just some pictures of that adventure... Brugge is technically nicknamed "little venice" (that is the translation in French) for the canals, as you can see in the first picture.</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<a href="https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1.0-9/1496703_10202823264202721_336338680_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1.0-9/1496703_10202823264202721_336338680_n.jpg" width="200" /></a>Here I am feeding a horse made out of jeans... It's not really that big of a deal but I really like horses and this thing was looking pretty cool so I had to take a picture with the horse :D (you gotta admit it turned out pretty cool!)</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">

HOUSES OF NUNS!! These little white houses used to house nuns (and some still do) way back in the day, they really were quite beautiful (especially with the trees) but they do all look the same, so that's a drawback I would say...</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
Before I changed host families (I'll get to that part) Alain and Isa took us to one last place, which just happened to be a castle!! The castle was pretty neat, we toured all of the rooms and learned a lot about the whole thing (because it was a tour; so there was a guide to talk about all of the features of the castle, I love it when that happens).</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">

However this is my last family photo with the Hubins, I miss them dearly but my new family is quite nice (they really are great). But I will always have my first mom here in Belgium along with all my sisters and especially my dad Alain... I will (or am I guess) really miss my sisters (after all I have none in the USA and my sisters here are the greatest!!). They were the best family an exchange student could ask for and I am so greatful to have been able to be a part of their family, even just for a short time! </div>

<div style="text-align: right;">
Just thought I would share the delishiousness!</div>

So this next picture is from one of those times, we hiked for probably four hours. I lost my shoe in the mud (my legs were covered in freezing mud because the ground thawed while we were walking and it was just a wet disaster). But at the end of the hike we walked some more and then climbed up this huge lookout tower only to find the most amazing view of Belgium (and some Germany). Anyway, the hike, the climb up the tower (it was deadly because of the stair/ice combination) was all worth it to get this great picture. Looking out in the picture (if I remember right) on the left there is this huge cloud of white... smoke... that doesn't look natural, yeah, that's a nuclear power plant, then to the right of that would be Brussels, more right Liège and eventually Herve, then wayyy to the right would be some Germany. That just gives you a slight idea of how high we were (I think Philippe said that we were at the highest point in Belgium, so that makes sense!).</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Alright; there is more to come soon,because this is just a little bit of what I've got to share, but for now, goodbye!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to come up with a super witty title for this post, since it's going to be ridiculously long and I've got a ton to say right now. Anyway... let's just go through some stuff I did this month... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrN1xL2FCdUIGm2gCE4ckphcvBF6-03vbgb6utU58rBWi8-x2248YFO1wo97mNNnpgfHCbJnXOIrIl0FAoCM1tRu58DGBR0tlxoOfrCH276YkS5RRnTN66vhR1AU20hg7lrnKikf9W5F0/s1600/DSCF8368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrN1xL2FCdUIGm2gCE4ckphcvBF6-03vbgb6utU58rBWi8-x2248YFO1wo97mNNnpgfHCbJnXOIrIl0FAoCM1tRu58DGBR0tlxoOfrCH276YkS5RRnTN66vhR1AU20hg7lrnKikf9W5F0/s320/DSCF8368.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

OKAY, So not a lot of people went, but it was still fun. Basically we were taken on this huge tour showing us all of the facilities and the guy was cracking jokes the whole time and comparing bacteria to spaghetti (I still don't see why). The whole process is kind of a 5 step process (or a three depending on how you look at it). All you need to know is that the waste water goes in, and clean, non-potable water comes out so it can be returned to the river (which is right next to the facility). And, of course it being a Rotary activity, they fed us waffles and orange juice at the end (they really need to be more creative with the snacks, I know). okay, next thing...<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
This was the first "Marche de Noel" that I went to. It was on a Sunday in my village and my host parents took us. The thing I'm eating is this... Pizza... type thing that has (I think) cheese and lard (?) on it... or something like that, it tasted like bacon pizza, so either way it was delicious. Plus when we were there some friends saw me and asked me to go drink hot wine with them (which, I have to say, is NOT the greatest drink offered here in Belgium, it's really... yuck). THE POINT IS that I have friends!!!! Friends that are like "Hey come have a drink with us!" So, I'm totally cool with that. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This ----------------------------------------------></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Is a picture from the Rheto Soiree (#1) for my school (CRMT). Which was REALLY FUN (partly because I am rheto) because all of my friends were there, which was great! (from Left to Right: Gabriel, Sacha, Paulina, Jessica, Me, Laura, Karen, Benoit, some guy I don't know)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Basically before this everyone got a lab coat and you had to draw/pain/whatever a dessin (I mean drawing) on the back (mine had a mustang painted as an american flag saying "Born in the USA") then throughout the week leading up to the St. Nic day you have all of your friends and teachers or whoever you want to sign it, and a lot of them are heartfelt messages, which is nice (especially for an ES). So then the day came, it was great, and we went to one class (my teacher wasn't there, so we didn't have to go) then after that you go to a spectacle put on by the Rheto class (which is a bunch of skits and stuff, and a talent show), then we returned to school for a lunch (paid for by the school, because they will feed us when we drink my friend said) then everyone went to the Melo (a bar) to drink the rest of the day. Did I mention that throughout the whole school day people were drinking? like even at school! Some people came to school wasted, and I'm like, YOU DO THIS HERE? WHAT? </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="clear: right; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
And I sang the cup song for the spectacle (during the Belgium's Got Talent part) so there's a video for that that I will upload in a different post (for some reason it won't load here,sorry).</div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi03dFXQSY4lMqMVzmwqZ1wtPTr1Viuyg75Rs43A8cOHazrnSj0drPYBRAGD1enHu4-mda1u4tR2vZyNcYVssx0QptG3Zarzin41_pTw5aPRJQi4XiMZZcwOhEdCTNcnHxNeXzgvvJKM6o/s1600/DSCF8447.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi03dFXQSY4lMqMVzmwqZ1wtPTr1Viuyg75Rs43A8cOHazrnSj0drPYBRAGD1enHu4-mda1u4tR2vZyNcYVssx0QptG3Zarzin41_pTw5aPRJQi4XiMZZcwOhEdCTNcnHxNeXzgvvJKM6o/s320/DSCF8447.JPG" width="320" /></a>This month I also turned 18 (which means in Europe you can then drink hard liquor I guess). So being the amazing person that I am I made over 100 peanut butter m&m cookies from scratch (they tasted SO GOOD). And having the best host mom ever, she let me invite like, more than 10 friends over to celebrate. Not only did she let me have people over, but she also amazingly served us food and drinks and didn't freak out about having a bunch of rowdy exchange students (and a couple Belgians) going crazy in her living room (not really...). Plus she then helped clean up the next day (she did basically all of the work) so I obviously have the best host mom ever, right?!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNO4PFLq9fIe5LH1XEeE8GNIyIPk-K6QKKFCEivQ8w3Olug3nStjvYdt8c9e0uVukCzhJfPH8S2pRpLcv2lz8K3RhvmtNGmrR3h3aDi3Irptcd6Lt6mNG8CnPDCbIzqecI2YXXc9RikXA/s1600/DSCF8456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNO4PFLq9fIe5LH1XEeE8GNIyIPk-K6QKKFCEivQ8w3Olug3nStjvYdt8c9e0uVukCzhJfPH8S2pRpLcv2lz8K3RhvmtNGmrR3h3aDi3Irptcd6Lt6mNG8CnPDCbIzqecI2YXXc9RikXA/s320/DSCF8456.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So there's my birthday cake----------------------></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1468777_391437670986450_1399093028_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1468777_391437670986450_1399093028_n.jpg" width="320" /></a>The crazy Mexicans conned me into "taking a bite" out of the cake because "it's a tradition" being my gullible self I fell for it and ended up getting my face shoved in cake... Which I have to say out of all my 18 years has never, ever, happened to me. Everyone sang happy birthday of course, but then it was so awesome because someone started the Belgian exchange student song (you don't want to know) and it was the best birthday ever (that not only included skyping with my mom, but also putting just dance onto the tv and watching everyone try to dance, which was hilarious).</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
(to the right) One of the only pictures with more than, like, two people in it taken at my party because we forgot to get a group picture before everyone left so... yeah. Anyway, the guy is Benoit (Belgian), me, Frida from Mexico, and Nathalia from Brazil.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">

These next three are from when Rotary took us all to Aachen, Germany to the Christmas market to see the market then give us hot wine, or in my case, hot chocolate. It was really fun, not to cold, and my friend Jessica and I ended up going into a toy store where we found a slide which we (of course) went down and almost freaked out because we didn't realize how long it actually was (and super fun). </div>

The next two are from when my host family took us to Maastricht to another Christmas market (I went to like, ten Christmas markets, very festive, and very fun). So we had some hot wine (hot chocolate) and a waffle and then when we went to leave for some reason none of the cars could get out of the parking garage (we were all stuck) and it took forever to get out (there's a more embarrassing part to this story, but that's for me to know, and for you to wonder forever about). Eventually we made it home.</div>

I THOUGHT the lady was only going to cut it to the middle of my back (she obviously didn't) so at first she had it where the back of my hair was to the middle of my back but the front of my hair was really short (I about freaked/almost cried when she just chopped the front pony-tail style). Basically, it looked really really weird (honestly) so I was like... umm.. can we fix this? so this is what it turned out to be, which isn't that bad at all. In fact, everyone (hopefully) loves it, at least that's what they've been telling me, but it will grow back (thank god).</div>

Here (this is for you mom) I'm pictured with Cinderella, she was giving me the cold shoulder though...<br />

<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">first thing's first: Amsterdam!</span></h3>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">So... This is Amsterdam. My dream came true! The pictures say (more than) a thousand words, but here is a short and sweet explanation. I went to Amsterdam for a long weekend with my best exchange friends from all different parts of the world. I experienced all Amsterdam has to offer. Not only did I see the Anne Frank house and the museums, but I got the chance to experience Amsterdam fully. Meaning: we walked everywhere. EVERYWHERE. I love Amsterdam, I love the streets, the architecture, I hate the bikes, I hate the trams, I hate the motos... This is from the person that LITERALLY almost got hit multiple times on the trip... Anyway, It was great, if you want to know how to travel/do/experience Amsterdam to the fullest (especially in the length of 2 or 3 days) I am the right person to ask! or just ask what I did there and such, because it was awesome.</span></div>

<h3>
scouts</h3>
Next thing is scout camp. Scouts in Belgium and everywhere else basically besides the United States works amazingly different (if this makes sense). So there are multiple sections of scouts and each section is determined by age group, some co-ed, some not, and each age group is headed by a group of Chefs which plan the activities and try to keep the kids from killing each other (semi-literally). So one weekend a year the chefs "camp" In this case we walked like 13 kilometers to a CASTLE in a different village and stayed there where we had fun (a lot of fun) ;). We also played a game where they split us up into teams and we had to do a series of games like a world cup (my team named themselves USA) USA came out on top in the end, I don't want to say I won it for us, but I won the last relay for us which was double or nothing points and almost threw up after winning it (no joke, if you want to know why, ask!). Anyway, scout camp here is WAY DIFFERENT and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. (don't tell but I prefer this to BSA or girlscouts).<br />
<h4>
Horseback riding</h4>
<div>
I recently started going on some Wednesdays chez Bridgide to help out and ride at her barn, I guess there family is with the rotary so when my mom asked if I could come and help with the horses she was like "sure! why not?" Sweet. So I've done that a couple times and it is really fun, I love it. Especially because they ride English, so it is a perfect opportunity for me to perfect my English seat....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Shadowing a vet (in Belgium)</h3>
<div>
Just about THE BEST DAY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!</div>
<div>
It was so cool, one of my mom's friends (again) husband is a vet (Tony) and he nicely offered to take me with him to shadow basically whenever because it's "not a problem." Of course I accepted, I could barely hold of from jumping up and down and screaming like a fan girl. Anyway, so I went with tony to see some stuff. We ground a horse's teeth, visited some cows, a dog, a colicing horse, all very interesting. The peak part was euthanizing a cow... But it was ok, the cow was really in a lot of pain and it didn't hurt it at all really.</div>
<div>
I also visited a farm with him where the nice dutch lady spoke English with me and happily told me all about her farm, which was really sweet (they have these fancy automatic milkers for the cows!!!!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So that's just a little bit, I have much more to come tomorrow, so check back tomorrow or the next day and there will surely be some nice stories and adventures here for you to enjoy!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<h4>
Questions about Amsterdam? About scouting in Belgium, or a different country? Wondering what I learned shadowing a vet? Just have a question about exchange, life, food...? Be sure to ask! I will be sure to answer! (eventually!)</h4>
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05963670406050824826noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4087884873838012647.post-68857719107737274972013-11-13T13:28:00.000-08:002013-11-13T21:53:08.304-08:00What I've been up to in MONTH TWOHalloween, I went as Rosie Riviter... Somehow there were two of me... who would of thought there would be two Rosies in a foreign country?!<br />
<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/1393828_10202274387201139_468975300_n.jpg" style="height: 625px; width: 837px;" /><br />
At the Foire de Liege (like a fair). I obviously got a giant waffle dipped in chocolate then smothered with whipped cream, I mean, who wouldn't get one of these?!<br />
<br />
<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/999572_10202274353400294_1899488612_n.jpg" style="height: 625px; width: 837px;" /><br />
We went to an apple fest at Weigemont... So we also went for a walk and we ended up taking pictures by this water fall on a rock. I was thinking the whole time.. "please, just take my picture I can't see anything I'm being blinded please"<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/994576_10202360303108983_1535513607_n.jpg" style="height: 625px; width: 837px;" /><br />
Weigemont, It's a beautiful picture I took, so I just had to share my master photo skills ;)<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/5150_10202360295908803_154408327_n.jpg" style="height: 625px; width: 837px;" /><br />
This is a giant slide, a GIANT slide! It was so awesome I just had to go down it, and it ended up being really bumpy, plus there was a sign saying in ten different languages "use of slide during rain is prohibited" of course that just made me want to come back in the rain because it would be so much more awesome!!<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/1383725_10202360287908603_1949508303_n.jpg" style="height: 625px; width: 837px;" /><br />
Halloween again, my exchange crew ;) Left to right its Danica (australia) Guillermo (Paraguay) Me, Lucas (Brazil) and Jessica (ohio)<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/1089_10202274401841505_485137579_n.jpg" style="height: 625px; width: 837px;" /><br />
During vacation I went on a tour of Liege, and this isn't even at the top of the stairs, I just had to take a break before I continued. On the way down, we got soaked, literally. We were so wet because it poured.<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="149" src="https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/1390617_10202360333589745_1869402105_n.jpg" style="height: 625px; width: 837px;" width="200" /><br />
<br />
So that is basically it, I have a few other things to say and a few other things to post but that can wait maybe a day or two... or a week.<br />
Next you can look forward to:<br />
Amsterdam<br />
Scout camp weekend<br />
Horse back riding<br />
Shadowing a vet in Belgium<br />
<br />
So as you can see there is much more interesting things to come, so don't forget to "check in" on me periodically... or just follow me that's cool too!</div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Since I last saw you guys I've done about a million things, so I think I will just post a picture (like normal) with description. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This picture though, is me eating ice cream, my host dad had the same kind. The ice cream was really good and homemade, everyone had a dessert, with a beer or an apple juice...</div>

It was going to be a really good drive but then it hit Olivia... Needless to say you can tell everyone laughed their butts off, it was pretty funny!<br />

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Okay, so it's now autumn, and I guess for Belgium this consists of weather around 48 degrees Fahrenheit, some wind, and basically RAIN. EVERY.DAY. I hate rain! I would rather it snow un beaucoup. Besides this, Belgium is pretty great, they are on their way to the world cup (GO BELGIQUE). I've only gotten a little homesick, sometimes I just get a little sad, then something great happens in the same day and I'm back to laughing my ass off with my friends. Anyway.. I totally forget what else I was going to write...</span></div>

<div>
General update... thing</div>
<div>
Basically... I am just great. Like, I love Belgium so much (that sounds so typical teenager) but it really is! I love this place, the food, the people, the culture, the fun it is all so amazing and this opportunity is one of the greatest things my mom has been able to give to me (thanks mom, I am so very lucky to have you!!) </div>
<div>
You guys are probably wondering about my host family too eh? Well, here's the deal, they are so basically like my real family that when we are at events I'm just like, "have you seen my parents??" Seriously, they are great. I get along so well with them, my parents that is and my host sisters of course (they are amazing!) They make me feel right at home, it is the best I could ever hope for!</div>
<div>
Also, I have already met my next two families, they seem pretty excited to have me in their homes! One of my future mothers even told me today (in French) "I can not wait until you are in my home!" Her saying this made me so happy, it is great how everyone here is so accepting and nice to us. </div>
<div>
I also can't believe I have already been here three weeks! Soon it will be a month, then two, then ohh I don't want to think about it! haha I am having a great time, learning a bunch, making friends, going places, it is truly awesome.</div>
<div>
Alors, this is getting way to long so I'm just going to post this thing before I accidentally delete it and have to start all over...</div>
<div>
If you have any questions or just want to talk post a comment or hit me up on email/facebook/skype (I will try to respond but, you know, exchange life and all)</div>
<div>
Okay, that's it. See you all another time!</div>
<div>
Bisous, </div>

It's just me again, updating you on life as an exchange student! :)<br />
A lot has went on my first week here! I went to Brussels, and had an Orientation of my Rotary district!<br />
The orientation was on Saturday and it was quite fun but reallllyyyy hot! I met lots of new friends and I was able to meet up with the ones I made in Brussels! Over all, It was a great day. Here are some pics of orientation:<br />
<img height="149" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/1175591_10201874825012334_646014343_n.jpg" width="200" />Me with some exchange student friends!<br />
<img height="149" src="https://sphotos-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/1006066_10201874827052385_2095516534_n.jpg" width="200" />My host mother, Isabelle, and I. She is the best!!<br />
<img height="149" src="https://sphotos-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/1239444_10201874830692476_284816855_n.jpg" width="200" />Maxim and I. He is a Belgium rotex, he went to Japan and is very funny and nice!<br />
<br />
<img height="149" src="https://sphotos-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/1012508_10201874832292516_295138689_n.jpg" width="200" />Another group of Exchange friends! They are all so nice!<br />
<br />
Alright, so then on Sunday I went into town with my family and some friends of their's, we had lunch and drinks. After that we went to an Agriculture exhibition! Some photos...<br />
<br />
<img height="149" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/1229889_10201877374596072_1365432980_n.jpg" width="200" /> I tried a beer at lunch, my host mother said I could try one, it was okay, but a little hard to finish (which I did!!)<br />
<img height="149" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/1209000_10201877380036208_1405006757_n.jpg" width="200" />I got to see my favorite sport at the ag fair! Show Jumping!! whoo! a little side story... I REALLY HAD TO USE THE RESTROOM. So I practically run to the line and am waiting and there is a quite handsome boy in front of me holding his show clothes and horse's boots, so when it comes time for him to use the restroom he turns to me and starts talking to me in rapid French asking me to hold his stuff. So I replied in French that I really didn't understand and was sorry. So basically he just shoves this really nice stuff into my hands and goes to the bathroom while I am standing there waiting almost wetting my pants and I had to go so bad that I just gave him back his stuff without even getting his name... It was HILARIOUS!<br />
<img height="149" src="https://sphotos-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/1150227_10201877388036408_51281634_n.jpg" width="200" />What do you know... I ran into an exchange student! Lucas! He is so nice :)<br />
<img height="149" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/1234812_10201877397076634_1317496806_n.jpg" width="200" />We had our host parents go into this, Isabelle and Alain, they are definitely the best! I love them so much they are awesome :D<br />
<img height="149" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/1231124_10201877391916505_1902353468_n.jpg" width="200" />Oh and I saw a bunch of John Deere's! Whoo!<br />
<br />
Okay so now it is Monday, tonight we (all of the students in Herve) go to French lessons in Verviers, I hope it will be fun. Also, on Wednesday, I start school!! But it only goes until about noon on Wednesdays... But I am hoping to have lots of fun!<br />
<br />
Okay, I am going to go now!<br />
<br />
See ya and love you guys!<br />

FINALLY<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">After a long time of waiting, three airplanes, and countless hours spent in airports I have finally (as of Sunday) arrived in Belgium! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">My host family is THE BEST, they are so nice and understanding, we have a lot of laughs! Also, Olivia, another girl from the U.S. lives here to with my host family she is really awesome too!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Most of all, Belgium is beautiful, the history, the landscape, the architecture... it's amazing!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So far I have visited an abbey (with a crypt)and we also ate ice cream (la glace) and had beer(bière), which I didn't like (Je n'aime pas!). We went for a walk around the neighborhood and saw plenty of cows and other animals (J'habite a la campagne). Today, we went to town and visited the bank, and a pastry shop (I had an eclair) AND ALSO MY SCHOOL!!! My school seems very nice, it is five years old and the people are very nice too! The headmaster told me A LOT of information about school, and how everything works (in French and if I didn't understand then in English). When we got home Olivia and I played a little game of cards, then went for a swim IN THE POOL! It was cold, but not that cold. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Now, I am very excited for our Rotary trip to Brussels on thursday, we get to visit the palace!! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">anyway, more to come soon!</span><br />

It came in the mail today and boy, was I excited!<br />
So, here's a little bit of a story. It has taken forever to get this thing! I first applied for it after I got back from France in June. I finally got it all ready to go in the BEGINNING of AUGUST after I received my guarantee form from the Belgium Rotary. Here, the Rotary had misplaced my paperwork/application so it took a while to get the GF. SO, thankfully the Belgium consulate pushed my application through and they and the wonderful ladies at Tzell got it all done in just about one week. Then today, the thing that will change my life forever arrived on my doorstep in a nice big, white, envelope. THANK GOD.<br />
<br />
Anyway, now I will be leaving this Saturday and arriving on Sunday in Brussels, I CAN'T WAIT. But before that I have a lot of packing to do, friends and family to say goodbye to, and a Government course I have to finish. One thing I got done for the week: SENIOR PICTURES! My wonderful cousin Tony and his beloved, Sarah, took about five hours out of their busy schedules to parade me around downtown in the warehouse district, a farm, with horses, and the school football field. And when it was finally all done, WE WENT TO HAPPY JOES. Can you say DELICIOUS?! I can! I am so glad that those are finally done and can't wait to see final edits! Hopefully there are some good ones hahaha.<br />

Alright, more stories/pictures/adventures/stuff to come later so I will see you all later! In the meantime, here are some pictures of BEAUTIFUL FRANCE!<br />

Being only one day away from leaving, it was most certainly time to pack my bags for the 15 day French trip that I have been attending meetings for since October.<br />
After diligently going through the packing list and picking out this or that to but into my bag, I started to carefully put things into it. By the time I was finished, I still had room to spare and my bag was still not to max capacity (a whopping 50 pounds allowed by the airline). All this took me about four whole hours (I ended at about 1:30).<br />
Ok. So finally I was done with packing and ready to get my butt out of the house. It was clearly time to call Jimmy. Or, well, text him. It was totally a hot day out today (80 ish). Knowing this we planned to go ice skating, as my last day in america for a whole two weeks this was a great way to use my time up (hello, who wouldn't want to go ice skating with the best boy friend ever?!). After skating, we got ice cream at Cold Stone (whoo!). Today I also went to visit my VIP soccer kids, I swear, they get more and more amazing every time I see them! Now I'm just chilling on the back porch with my family, waiting for the steaks to get cooked to perfection (I love my family... and their cooking!).<br />
Alright, now that I went through THAT boring spiel, I AM SO READY FOR FRANCE!<br />
Until next time,<br />

Welcome to my blog! As most of you know, I am going to be a foreign exchange student in Belgium next year through Rotary District 5970! For those of you that don't know, here are the minor details...<br />
I applied in October 2012 and had my first interview in November 2012 (I was quite surprised when I found out I made it to the next round). After I passed through the first interview I went to Newton, Iowa in January 2013 for the final interview. I was honestly scared to death but, thank goodness, I did not cry (whoo!). On the way home from the interview we (Emmy, Maria, and I) got a phone call that WE HAD ALL MADE IT and would be participating in exchange in 2013/2014. My application was accepted to Belgium shortly afterward (again, Whoo!) and now I'm just waiting to find out where in Belgium I am going and who my host families will be. Now that I've got some of those details out of the way, here's for the good stuff. I will (hopefully) be updating this blog as much as possible throughout my exchange with posts, pictures, videos, stories, and messages. Everyone is welcome to comment, share thoughts, and shoot me messages through this page (I will be checking this most often) HOWEVER please keep it clean and if you don't have anything nice to say people, please, don't say anything at all (I don't want to come on here and have inappropriate comments get me down, chill?) Alright, it's getting late so I'm just going to post this now.<br />
DFTBA and all that :)<br />
Catch you all later!<br />

<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">To start things out here is a little bit about me...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">My name is Holli Hochberger and I live in Iowa, USA. I'm currently a Junior in high school and work hard studying and working. When I'm not at work or school, I like to hike, fish, ride horses, read, cook, watch movies and go canoeing and kayaking with my brothers. Now that I have the basic, cookie cutter, introduction over with, I'm the kind of person that can be a friend forever until you piss me off to the point of no return. I laugh a lot around my friends and family, but tend to be pretty quiet by strangers. Sarcasm is a great attribute, however I also tend to be pretty serious. The point is, get to know me and there's great opportunity we could be great friends, if not, well, your loss. Here I just hope that you'll follow my adventure through Belgium and beyond and keep in touch throughout. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Catch ya later -Holli</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">p.s. remember-the adventure comes first!</span><br />
